General
Purpose:
The Otsego County Veteran Affairs provides Veterans' services to
Veterans and their families with veterans benefits advocacy and
assistance. Staff that is dedicated to ensure that the sacrifices
of our nation's Veterans are recognized, and that they and their
families receive all veterans benefits to which they are entitled.
Our goals are to obtain the maximum Veterans' benefits available
for our clients through our professionalism and advocacy while
making the process as simple and understandable as possible. As a
division of Otsego County government we are able to provide our
services free of charge.
Personnel Selection:
The County Administrator appoints the Veterans Counselor.
The Probate Judge in conjunction with the Board of Commissioners
appoints Veteran members from the local community to review
Veterans to determine if eligible. Currently there are two members.
Relationship to the County Board:
The County Board provides a vital Veteran resource to the community
by granting a governing Veteran Board. The County Board
participates in the selection of the professional Veterans board, furnishes office space and utilities, and approves
general funds.
Departmental Revenues:
Support for the Veteran Affairs is granted from the County general
fund.
The Veterans' Relief Fund Act 214 of 1899 provides Soldiers and
Sailors Relief Funds.
