Q: What does the housing office offer?
A: Very low interest financing for repairs or emergency repairs to
single-family residential dwellings.
Q: What are the interest rates that are offered?
A: Interest rates are determined by household size and income.
Deferred loans are 0% with no monthly payments, and 0-3% interest
with payments, maximum mortgage of 25 years. Payments are
determined by the amount of repairs to a dwelling.
Q: What consists of total repairs to a dwelling?
A: A leaking roof, deteriorated- siding, flooring, leaking pipes,
single pane windows, electrical problems, and health/safety
hazards. Also lead based paint reduction to homes constructed
prior to 1978.
Q: What consists of emergency repairs to a dwelling?
A: If a water well, septic system, or furnace (furnace in cold
conditions) should stop working and need to be replaced.
Q: How do I qualify for (rehabilitation) home repairs?
A: Contact the Housing Office at (989) 731-7570. Questions
will be asked to see if you qualify.
Q: Who determines the needed repairs?
A: The Housing Inspector will inspect your entire dwelling that
pertains to Section 8 Housing Quality Standards (minimal code
requirements) and local codes. Specifications are written for
bid and reviewed by the Committee and applicant.
Q: Who will perform the work?
A: Contractors that are registered in the Housing Office and/or
contractors that you prefer, that are licensed and insured by the
State of Michigan.
Q: Can you direct me to other County resources related to my
dwelling or rental?
A: Yes, our office has a "Housing Resource Brochure" that directs
you to local organizations and businesses that offer:
Subsidized Rentals, real estate offices, banks and lenders,
financial assistance, dispute resources and educational
information.
