Purpose:

The Housing Committee provides zero to three percent interest rate financing for rehabilitation and emergency repair programs to low and very low-income owner-occupied single-family residential and rental dwellings in Otsego County.

Qualified Habitat for Humanity applicants can utilize funds for site preparation for their new home. Deteriorated single-family occupied dwellings maybe considered for a replacement of a manufactured unit. Program funding is announced in local newspapers, flyers, and meetings.

We provide very low interest financing for repairs or emergency repairs to single-family residential dwellings.

Personnel Selection:

The County Administrator in conjunction with the Housing Committee appoints the Housing Director. The Clerk is appointed by the Director.
The Board of Commissioners in conjunction with the Housing Committee appoints housing members from the local community to review projects and bids to determine if eligible. Currently there are seven Housing Members, which include two realtors, a lender, the County Treasurer, a County Commissioner, a Pastor, and a citizen from Corwith Township.

Relationship to the County Board:

The County Board provides a vital housing resource to the community by granting a governing Housing Committee. The board selects the professional housing board, furnishes office space and utilities, and approves operational grants.

Departmental Revenues:

Support for the Housing Committee is granted from Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) - Community Development Block Grants, USDA - Rural Development, Program Income, MSHDA Property Improvement Program, and Northeast Michigan Community Service Agency Weatherization Program. The Housing Committee and staff organize grants to provide sources of funding.
