All courts in Otsego County operate under a "Concurrent Jurisdiction Plan" approved by the Michigan Supreme Court and function as a unified trial court called the 46th Circuit Trial Court. The merged court system has been proven to be a more efficient use of the judges and court personnel. Case handling is simplified, repetition of case handling has been reduced, rising costs of the judicial system were reduced where practical, and receivables due to the county have been reduced. The end result is providing better service to citizens in the communities.

The 46th Circuit Trial Court is divided into the following divisions: Circuit (to include the Family and Friend of the Court component units), District and Probate.
