Ownership

Gaylord Regional Airport is owned and operated by the County of Otsego.  The Airport is licensed by the Michigan Aeronautics Commission as a General Utility Airport.  It is listed as a tier one airport in all categories of the Michigan Airport System Plan.

Airport Committee

An Airport Committee sets policy and, in conjunction with the County Administrator, oversees the administration of the Airport.  The Airport Committee is comprised of three County Commissioners who are appointed by the Chairman of the County Board of Commissioners.

Airport Manager

The Airport Manager is a County employee and reports to the County Administrator.  The Airport Manager is licensed by the State Aeronautics Commission.

Funding

Approximately one tenth ($67,000) of the Airport's operating budget is provided by the County general fund.  The balance is provided by aircraft fuel sales, land leases, hangar rents, landing fees and other miscellaneous service charges.

Major improvements to the Airport, including infrastructure and equipment, are funded through Federal and State grants with the County providing approximately five percent of the total costs.

Obligations

As a result of accepting these Federal grant dollars, the County is obligated to maintain the Airport for a period of twenty years from receipt of the grant.

Community Benefits

The latest Community Benefits Assessment provided by the Michigan Department of Transportation indicates that the Airport's total impact to the local economy is over four and one-half million dollars annually.
